Walkabout America
Number 4

“Just think:
If every person did just a little more for neighbors and community
what the world would become!”

Route 2014

Robert McNary aka Dr. Bob is making his fourth, recently annual,
Walkabout America journey.
His previous trips were made from Montana to New York City (2002),
Montana to Nevada (2012), Montana to Nebraska 2013).

This time he is heading for Kansas and possibly beyond.
The trek is always about meeting people, sharing stories
and waving his own personally machine-sewn updated version of the American Flag.

His unique emblem originated 17 years ago as a 20-foot flag painted on the second floor
of the Rocky Mountain Garage in Lavina, MT,
with only one large star in the blue canton and a gold heart overlying it.

Before his first Walk to New York, Robert sewed a 3 X 5 nylon flag to accompany him.
Fannie the Flag was retired after the 2013 Walk because of excessive wear -
largely due to a sudden hailstorm.

Dr. Bob sewed a replacement to join him on this year's Walk.
The flag has slowly revealed its symbolism:

• The Golden Heart represents Amity.

• The One White Star means Unity.

• The original Stripes of the Sons of Rebellion suggest Imagination.

Bob and the Flag wish to remind us as the USA passes through tough times
that we might want to work towards renewed values in our national life, maybe a new flag,
resurrection of the Amity, Unity and Imagination from and to all.

"A nation of the people, by the people and for the people."
A. Lincoln
